Tear down of Bull 65W PD Fast Charging Power Strip

As the leader in the power strip industry, Bull recently launched a multi-port power strip with a power of up to 65W 2A1C. The maximum output power of the USB port is 18W and 65W respectively, and it supports multiple fast charging protocols. Let's take it apart to see the internal materials.

1.Product Appearance

The cable is bundled with plastic-coated wire, with a specification of 300/500V 3 X 1.0mm ²

The plug has grooves on both sides for easy Plugging and unplugging.

 

With "GNT-10BS10" model and "10A 250V" specification parameters on the inside of the plug, and it has passed 3C certification.

 

The power cord is about 1.6m long, the body is about 20cm long, and the total length is 1.8m.

The interface is stamped with a distinguishing mark and the max output power of each port.

There are six sockets on it, including three 3 + 2 sockets and three 2 sockets each

Each AC socket is equipped with a safety door to prevent accidents caused by children's curiosity and playfulness.

There are soft rubber pads at the four corners to increase friction and prevent the power strip from slipping on the table. It also hides the screws for decorative purposes. The product specifications and other information are also marked on the bottom shell.

The ChargerLAB POWER-Z KT002 shows the USB-C output protocols supports Apple 2.4A, Samsung 5V/2A and DCP protocols, as well as QC2.0/3.0, AFC, and FCP fast charging protocols.

The PDO message shows the USB-C port also supports the USB PD3.0 fast charging standard, with five sets of fixed voltage levels: 5V3A, 9V3A, 12V3A, 15V3A, 20V3.25A, and 3.3-21V3A PPS voltage levels.

 

In addition, The KT002 shows USB-A1 port supports Apple 2.4A, Samsung 5V/2A, DCP, QC2.0/3.0, AFC, FCP protocols.

2.Teardown

Remove the soft rubber plug, all four corners of the body are fixed with H-shaped anti-disassembly screws.

 

Open the shell, there are many small cylinders on the bottom shell, and there is a primary isolation plate for the charger at the right side.

The end of the power strip is fixed with screws and locks, and the integrated copper strip is fixed with buckles. There is an isolation plate between it and the charger, and the socket power supply  is soldered and led out from the circuit board.

 

The PCB board, the transformer area is equipped with brass heat sink, and insulating tape is pasted on the heat sinks. The Type-C interface board and the output secondary buck board are independently welded.

Remove the heat sink, and most components such as transformers, inductors, and capacitors are reinforced with glue. The separation between the primary stages is obvious

 

The back of the board is equipped with a heat sink, and there is a black insulating plate between the two.

 

Remove the heat sink, the two main heating chips of the rectifier bridge and the synchronous rectifier MOS are attached with thermal pads to help dissipate heat.

The filter capacitor specification is 400V 2.2μF.

Another one has the same specifications, and both capacitors are from the SAMXON brand.

The above is the internal relay control circuit of the plug strip, and the following is the 65W fast  charger circuit, which adopts a constant voltage output and secondary voltage reduction architecture

Common-mode inductors are covered with heat-shrinkable tubes to filter out EMI interference.

The capacity of the safety X capacitor is 0.47μF.

The input rectifier bridge WRLSB80M from Shenzhen World Industrial Co., Ltd. has a soft recovery curve and smooth turn-off characteristic to reduce the diode junction capacitance to achieve very little harmonic oscillation. The LSB package selected has good heat dissipation characteristics to improve the reliability of medium and large wattage adapters. A single chip can achieve 60W +.

The other two are Ymin aluminum electrolytic capacitors 400V 27μF.

The other side of the PCB board is a buck inductor and an output filter solid capacitor. The magnetic ring inductor is covered with a heat shrink tube, and the output filter solid capacitor specification is 16V 180μF.
